Mabel Lockerby

Mabel Lockerby was born in Montreal on March 13, 1882 and died there on May 1, 1976.  She studied at the Art Association of Montreal (now Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal) under Maurice Cullen and William Brymner.  She painted a great variety of subjects: portraits, landscapes with characters, children and animals, streets and lanes, soldiers and still lifes.  Her paintings stand out by their imaginative design and vivid colors. Mabel Lockerby participated in the Salons du Printemps of the Art Association of Montreal and very often in the Royal Canadian Academy of Art Exhibitions.  She was a member of the Beaver Hall Group, the Canadian Group of Painters and the Contemporary Arts Society.  Her paintings are part of private and museum collections.
