Miguel Forest

''At first a graphist designer and illustrator, I then started painting to keep a manual contact with matter, to find freedom of personal expression beyond constraints and obligations imposed by graphic arts. As a landscape painter, I am fascinated and possessed by the extent, vastness and variety of landscape. However, I do not seek to reproduce this landscape, neither in its details nor in its exactness. Intuitively, I try to bring forth within the canvas the secret and invisible force of the elements, whether through movements of the sky, light intensity, variety of forms or shades of colour. My whole approach endeavours to capture the essence of the landscape and to revive it in order to, in my own view, account for its power, diversity and immensity. I find my prime inspiration through careful observation of nature in order to identify forces that sometimes mesh, complement or counteract. The unpredictable movements of the sky, the persistent winds, gaps in the light and the River are subjects of choice. I am taken and fascinated by trees. alone or in groups, majestic ones or stumps, that hang on or fall. Unknown mountains in the distance need to be discovered and invite to the unreachable. Fragile human constructions, sometimes lost in the immensity, are an allegory of the relation between human beings and nature. ''
