Nérée De Grâce
Nérée de Grâce was born in 1920 in Shippagan, New Brunswick and died in Québec City in 2002. After graduating from École des beaux-arts de Québec in 1948, he founded his own advertising and screen printing business and illustrated many books by Antonine Maillet. In 1977, he dedicated himself totally to painting. His naïve and surrealist style is reminiscent of Chagall. Canada Post issued a stamp from his painting ‘’Le village de Shippagan’’ (Shippagan Village). Nérée de Grâce owed his recognition to the Acadian singer Édith Butler who, starting in 1979, contributed a great deal to make him known.
