Catherine Morneau

Graduated with a “master’s degree in counseling and guidance” and a graduate program in “study of artistic practice, I have always been challenged by the creative process, by this movement of the pendulum which requires dreaming differently.

A painter for over 35 years, my approach is self-taught, inspired by connections, these encounters which nourish my sensitivity and by nature, these times of contemplation which lull my introspection.

Fluid superposition of colors forms the basis of my works. Then, animated by the material, with strokes of spatulas and brushes, I design my painting, in a continual movement of construction and deconstruction. The scratching reveals the imprint of a past emotion and bears witness to the history of the creation of the work.

The work and careers of Françoise Sullivan, Marcelle Ferron, and Joan Mitchell challenge me with the courage and audacity that characterize these women artists. They dared, cleared the way, questioned the obstacles and defied conventions.

Art, a place to express, dream, be useful and inspire.

Collaboration and engagement:

• Engagement in a creative research project, “Let yourself be lulled by the intimate profession, passage and anchoring”, presentation at the conference in Study of artistic practice, UQAR, 2018;

• Participation in the writing of a collective of artists entitled “What seeks to take shape”, Study of artistic practice, UQAR, 2019;

• Since 2019, Vice-president of the board of directors of the “Café boutique la Chapelle du Quai”, located in Bas St-Laurent. This contribution allows me to promote the promotion and valorization of craftsmen and emerging artists in the field of music and visual arts;

• Participation in numerous courses and workshops supervised by the artist Nathalie St Pierre, owner of the ”Ocre Jaune school”; Having experienced two stays of more than six months abroad, artistic development in Morges, in Switzerland and in western Canada.
