André Pitre
Born in 1965, lives and works in Montreal, Quebec.
Originally from Gaspesie, André Pitre stands out for his deeply personal interpretation of both landscape and the human figure, where the formal rigor inherited from his background in architecture engages in a dialogue with the poetic sensitivity he developed through his training in art (painting and sculpture).
His landscapes, often inspired by his native Gaspesie, do not aim to replicate reality but rather to convey its essence — to capture its presence and suggest an intimate, almost interior vision of the land. Each canvas becomes a space for contemplation.
When exploring the human figure, Pitre offers a refined, timeless reading. The features, stylized and reduced to their essentials, are integrated into a composition where the face becomes just one element among others — forms, lines, colors. More than a portrait, it is a silent, sometimes enigmatic presence that invites the viewer into reverie.
Balancing precision of line with intuitive expression, André Pitre’s work is sober, refined, and deeply meditative. Each painting is a pause, a suspended moment, an invitation to slowness. In Canada and abroad, his works are part of major public and private collections.
