Bertrand Tremblay

"Painting is a unique art remaining a major vehicle in contemporary creation." Bertrand Tremblay was born in Les Éboulements, Quebec, in 1951. Upon graduation from the visual arts program at the Laval University in 1978, he returned to Charlevoix and collaborated in the earliest activities of the Baie-Saint-Paul Arts Centre. He was part of the First Symposium of Painting of Baie-Saint-Paul in 1982 and participated again in 1984. Much of his time was spent teaching, painting, drawing and traditional weaving throughout Charlevoix. In 1985, he returned to Quebec City, making five trips to the Canadian Arctic, experiences that deepened his vision of painting. In 1989, Bertrand Tremblay was awarded the First Prize of the Art Acquisition Program of the City of Charlesbourg. The artist is also an accomplished poet with published volumes in 1995, 2001, 2004 and 2007. He is a cofounder and the art director of the review of poetry Poésie de Québec. In 2004, he became an official member of the I.A.F. – Institute of Figurative Arts, Canada. The works of Bertrand Tremblay are part of numerous collections throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.
