Jean Goguen

The abstract painter Jean Goguen was born in Montreal on March 15, 1927 and died there on July 13, 1989.  Very much involved in the questioning that shook the visual arts in the 50’s and 60’s, he signed the Plasticien movement manifesto and participated in the Abstract Art Exhibition in 1959 with Guido Molinari and Claude Tousignant.  He preferred form, material and colour as opposed to representation.  In the 60’s, Jean Goguen became an art professor at Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University) and pursued teaching the aesthetic quest he had previously started as a painter.
