John Ovcacik

Known mostly for his surreal landscapes featuring minimalist farmhouses and outbuildings, John has recently taken his work in a bold new direction. The straight lines and tightly rendered images have given way to larger brushstrokes, bolder colours and a more whimsical approach to composition and design.

The new work draws from diverse traditions: the simplicity of primitive art forms, the visual texture found in printmaking techniques, and the objective depiction of contemporary realism. Reflecting a deep love and fascination with the natural world, these images combine reverence with a sense of humour.

Inspired by John’s passion for fly fishing, it has quickly evolved to encompass a broad range of subject matter.

A two-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award, John has had his work accepted into major juried shows, including those of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, Arts for the Parks, and the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition.

John’s work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections, including those of Bell Canada, Jetform Corporation, Merrill Lynch Canada and the Royal Canadian Mint. He resides and works in Chelsea Quebec.
