Marcelle Ferron ARC / RAC

Marcelle Ferron was born in Louiseville on January 29, 1924. Her childhood was particularly difficult due to tuberculosis at the age of 3 and to the loss of her mother when she was very young. Later, she studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Québec. A co-signer of the Refus Global manifesto with Paul-Émile Borduas, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Fernand Leduc, Pierre Gauvreau, Marcel Barbeau and Françoise Sullivan, she became one of the most important artists in Québec. In 1953, she left for Paris with her three daughters where she lived a dozen years. Back in Québec City in 1966, she produced several large stained-glass windows namely in the Champs-de-Mars metro (1968), Sacré-Coeur Church in Québec City (1969) and Granby Courthouse (1979). She died on November 19, 2001, in Montreal.
