Raluca Pilat

Originally from Bucharest, Romania, Raluca Pilat has lived in Québec for over twenty years. She trained at the Nicolae Tonitza School of Fine Arts and then at the Nicolae Grigorescu Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, where she earned her degree in 1989. After completing her studies, Pilat worked as an art teacher for more than twelve years. Alongside her teaching, she continued creating and exhibiting her paintings in various shows across Romania and Europe.

Her work reflects an artist with an effervescent imagination. In her paintings, she immerses the viewer in a universe of dream and philosophy, where human destiny and its relationship with the material world are intertwined. From exhibition to exhibition, she leads the audience along the path of her creativity, revealing new and fascinating themes each time.

As art critic André Seleanu describes:
“Trained in the deep tradition of the Romanian and Bucharest artistic schools, Raluca Pilat has also assimilated elements of Québec and Canadian schools. Her art possesses an instinctive quality shaped by a long cultural history, reflected in harmoniously balanced colors and refined, sophisticated calligraphy, subtly oriented toward postmodern and contemporary registers. One understands: an art both clearly defined and a personal palette matured through work and experience; upon this foundation, vast possibilities emerge… A polysemous work rooted in the Earth and opening onto the imagination.”

A fully matured artist with tremendous creative force, Pilat has reached a stage in her evolution where everything converges, allowing her to transpose her very personal vision of the world onto canvas and assert her uniqueness. In her own words: “Artistic creation is, for me, a way to embrace the world, to create connections with it. In my paintings, I attempt to illustrate these connections, to give tangible form to these invisible forces.”
