Léo Ayotte

Léo Ayotte was born on October 10, 1909, in Sainte-Flore, in the Mauricie region. His love for nature and the wonder it brought led him naturally towards painting. He left his hometown for Montreal in 1938 and the apartment he found on Saint-Christophe Street became his workshop for over thirty years. This self-taught artist did not deviate from his unique style. Ayotte used one brush only to produce an artwork. With a sure stroke and incredible spontaneity, he always got his paintings right the first time. After a difficult struggle with cancer, he died in December 1976
