Louis Hughes
In a parallel space to that of the reality of the Artic territory and its wildlife, Louis Hughes forcefully expresses the relationship between the outside and the inside through the power of abstract. Between the silence of the cold and the breaking of white, one tames life, retraced and narrowly defined in acrylic, in one of the most extreme climates on earth. Louis Hughes is equally able to capture form in just a few strokes, and to convey great spaces, wind, cold, snow, man's fragility when confronted with the elements and himself, and multiple resonances without having to represent them or in spite of wanting to focus only on life and survival. Louis Hughes was born in Montreal in 1958. He obtained a degree in French literature at Concordia University in 1989. He studied political science before settling for a long stay in Povungnituk, in Québec's Far North. His artworks are part of several private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
