Pierre Chénier
For over thirty years, Pierre Chénier has scrutinized the notion of time, a certainly dizzying, inexplicable and inexhaustible subject. Is it his training as a historian, his archeological practice, his interest for pure science and the history of art that influence his work? Or is it simply his great humanity that drives him to seek, to question time and therefore memory? This linear time that science has curved, confusing our references, raising even more questions and fewer answers. Through his paintings made of canvas, plaster, resin, ink, walnut stain, shellac, Pierre Chénier draws, erases, streaks, covers, uncovers and keeps a few signs that seem forgotten by time. Under the theme ?Dissemblance,? (dissimilarity), Pierre Chénier's paintings and drawings covered the walls of Sherbrooke Musée des beaux-arts in 2009.
