Claude A. Simard (1943–2014)
Claude A. Simard was born on July 9, 1943.
He was a painter renowned for his vibrant canvases depicting floral gardens, landscapes, still lifes, and figures.
After completing classical studies in Québec, he graduated in 1966 with a degree in Visual Communication and Design from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. Simard began his career as Director of Advertising and Store Design at Maison Simons in Québec, where he created the company’s iconic green leaf logo. In 1973, he founded the graphic design firm Communikart.
Elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1981, he also taught at the School of Visual Arts at Université Laval from 1982 to 2002.
Alongside his work as a graphic designer and professor, Simard exhibited in about ten art galleries across Canada and held 38 solo exhibitions between 1974 and 2014. He also published three books sharing his artistic vision and creative journey.
