Julie Savard
Born in Saint-Romuald in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, Julie Savard now resides in the Vieux-Limoilou neighborhood. She began her career in 2002, at the age of 22, while completing her training in sculpture at the Maison des métiers d’art de Québec, where she received an award and an honorable mention for her body of work.
She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions as well as symposiums, and has created several sculptures for Québec’s arts integration program in architecture and the environment. In 2006, Savard became an active member of the artisan cooperative Le Bloc5. In 2017, she established her studio in the mountains of Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval, sharing the space with her partner, Yann Normand, also a sculptor.
Savard creates an atmosphere in her sculptures that ranges from intimate to dynamic, evoking curiosity and wonder. Her sculptural pieces serve as allegories of natural genius, inviting viewers to contemplate and reflect on the relationship between humans and nature. Each creation explores the balance between form and space, light and shadow, offering a unique and captivating visual experience.
Her sculptures are the result of innovative metalworking, where she experiments with subtraction, accumulation, and folding of lines to create complex and airy structures. This technique transforms materials into forms reminiscent of elaborate metal weavings, interacting with light and constantly altering the viewer’s perception.
