François Duchesne
François Duchesne’s sculptural practice centers on capturing the subtle intensity of human moments. After more than forty-five years in graphic design and creative direction, he now channels his deep understanding of composition, gesture and narrative into a refined sculptural language.
His work is guided by a distinctive conceptual framework built around two complementary axes: Context and Creation. The context reveals the idea, emotion or reflection that precedes the work, while creation becomes its sculptural interpretation — a gesture suspended in time.
Working primarily in metal, sometimes combined with stone and wood, Duchesne develops a minimalist visual language defined by slender lines and elongated figures. These delicate forms evoke movement, balance and fragility, transforming each sculpture into a fragment of narrative where posture, tension and silence invite the viewer to complete the story.
Originally from the Laurentian region of Québec, Duchesne draws inspiration from lived experiences, the movement of the human body and meaningful moments of everyday life. Through this sensitive and narrative approach, his sculptures seek to preserve what is most fleeting in life: the instant.
